Cobb Alcohol Taskforce
The Cobb Alcohol Taskforce (http://www.cobbat.org/) has been missing the youth voice in our efforts to curtail underage drinking. We hope that you know of two outstanding youth in your schools, churches, household or community youth organizations that would be interested in serving on the CAT Youth Council. We are planning a Youth Summit on Saturday, March 6th for all the youth to meet, greet, and listen to their voice about underage drinking. Application deadline is January 29th. Margie Hatfield Scholarship Application
Do you know a high school senior who has done an outstanding job with community service and citizenship during his or her high school career? Encourage him or her to apply for the ECCC PTA Margie Hatfield Scholarship! A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to each of the six winners, one from each ECCC PTA high school.  Applications are available in the school guidance offices, online at www.ecccpta.org, attached is the Cover Sheet about the scholarship, here is the direct link

Parent/Family Involvement
Parent to Parent – The Parent/Family Involvement Committee is offering this prevention program to all ECCC PTA’s free of charge. Created by a former Walton parent 18 years ago, it empowers parents to raises healthy, responsible kids in our increasingly toxic culture. Small groups of parents meet weekly for 4 weeks, watch a DVD presentation and hold discussions with a trained facilitator. Dates are available in March and April if your school would like to participate. Cobb County Prevention Intervention Center
Jeff Dess of the Cobb County Prevention Intervention Center will talk about Cyber- Bullying, Internet and Cell Phone Safety, Wednesday, February 3rd, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Dodgen Middle School theater, 1725 Bill Murdock Road, Marietta. Learn how social networking sites, You Tube, cell phones, and other technology are used to bully students and how parents can actively prevent this at home. Please note this meeting is for parents only. For questions contact Stephanie Holden at involvement@ecccpta.org. 
 
Earth Day 2010 - Just around the Corner
It’s not too early to start thinking about how your PTA/PTSA will recognize Earth Day 2010 - the 40th anniversary of this celebration. Check out the ECCC home page for lots of ideas and be sure to let your Environmental Education/Grounds Beautification folks know about it as well. Looking Toward the Future Conference
The Cobb-Marietta-Douglas Interagency Transition Council is offering parents, teachers, and students the opportunity to learn about services available to assist students in life planning after high school. EOCT and Graduation Test Prep Books
The Media Center will be selling 2010 EOCT and Graduation test prep books with answer keys during the January 28th Open House in the main hall atrium. The books with answer keys retail for $30, but we will be selling both for $25. Cash or checks accepted.

Yearbooks are still available to order. Deadline is February 1st. Click here for the order form.
 
Freshman Parents
On Febuary 4th, Kell will be hosting Freshman advisement. Parents are welcomed to attend at 9:00 am, 1:00 pm, or 6:00 pm. There is no need to RSVP. Parents will receive information on their students’ four year graduation plan, graduation requirements, and other opportunities to assist students in fulfilling graduation requirements.
 
Great New Scholarships Available

Attention Parents
This year’s school improvement survey is now available online at:

Your participation will provide feedback directly to our school about the quality of educational programs and services. Please take a few moments to complete the survey, which is available until February 12th, 2010. If you would like to complete a paper copy please stop by the front office.
The school improvement survey will also be available at our open house.
 
GHSGT
Review sessions for the GHSGT writing retest are available on Mondays and Wednesdays and for all other subjects on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s FAFSA Time
If you have a senior who is about to go off to college, then it is time for you to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This application assesses your income level, assets, etc. to determine your financial “need.” It also serves as your application for HOPE. For more information, click here.

Registration is coming soon. English, math, social studies, and science are required and crucial to compete with this world today, but Career Tech Courses are REAL CLASSES FOR REAL LIFE.  2010 Lacrosse Try-Outs & Pre-season Information
Try-outs for the 2010 boys and girls teams will begin February 1st after school. All parents of students who plan to try-out for either boys or girls lacrosse should have received a 2010 pre-season informational letter from the Booster Club. If you have not received the letter, please contact kelllacrosse@comcast.net or Coach Etter, or Coach McLaughlin.
 
Face-Off Lacrosse Meeting
The 2010 “Face-Off” Lacrosse Meeting will be on Monday, February 8th at 6:30 pm (players report at 6:00 pm) in the KHS Cafeteria. Players who are selected for a boys or girls lacrosse team and at least one parent are required to attend this very important meeting. Please see the pre-season information letter for more details.
 
Don’t Miss the 2010 Southern Showdown
One of the most exciting match-ups in Division 1 men’s lacrosse will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 13th at McEachern High School as #1 Duke takes on #19 Bucknell in the 2010 Southern Showdown. Tickets are $12.00 each and Kell Lacrosse receives a portion of the proceeds. Tickets can either be purchased on-line via PayPal (www.kelllacrosse.com) or you can bring a check payable to “Kell Lacrosse” to Coach Mac in the Media Center.
